1. Celebrate New Year's Eve in Florence's Main Squares

Florence has organised free celebrations in several historic squares. For the arrival of 2026, the programme included Piazza Santa Croce, Piazza della Signoria, Piazza del Carmine and Piazza Santissima Annunziata. The locations and performers for December 31, 2026, are still to be confirmed.

Piazza Santa Croce

The previous edition brought Italian pop acts to a stage in front of the basilica. If another concert is announced, it's a good choice for live music and a lively crowd. Arrive early and check any entrance arrangements.

Piazza della Signoria

Surrounded by Palazzo Vecchio and historic statues, this square hosted a countdown and projections on the palace façade for the arrival of 2026. Even without a performance, it's a memorable stop on an evening walk through the centre.

Piazza del Carmine and Piazza Santissima Annunziata

Piazza del Carmine, across the Arno in Oltrarno, hosted jazz in the previous programme. Piazza Santissima Annunziata, north of the Duomo, hosted gospel. Keep an eye on both when the new programme is released.

Our tip: Pick one main square instead of trying to move between crowded events just before midnight. Follow the City of Florence and Feel Florence for announcements.

2. Watch the Midnight Celebrations Along the Arno River

For a quieter evening, walk along the Arno from Ponte Santa Trinita towards Ponte Vecchio, or explore the streets on the Oltrarno side. The illuminated bridges make a lovely backdrop after dark.

Are there fireworks in Florence?

No official fireworks display for the arrival of 2027 has been confirmed. Some photographs show other celebrations, including the June San Giovanni festivities pictured above. Wait for a city announcement before planning around a display.

What about Piazzale Michelangelo?

The terrace offers panoramic views of the city, though it's an uphill walk and can feel cold at night. Choose it for the view, rather than as a guaranteed place to watch fireworks.

3. Book a New Year's Eve Dinner in Florence

A traditional cenone di Capodanno is a festive meal that often continues until midnight. From an early dinner near Santa Croce to a rooftop celebration, these venues have announced offers for December 31, 2026.

Boccanegra: dinner in the historic centre

Near Santa Croce, Boccanegra offers three experiences for 150€ per person, including selected wine and water. Choose the early dinner, ending around 9 PM, to spend midnight elsewhere, or stay for a menu with a toast. See Boccanegra's offers.

B-Roof: rooftop dinner with Florence views

At Grand Hotel Baglioni near Santa Maria Novella, Sparkling Night begins at 7:30 PM, with dinner, live music and rooftop views. Ask the restaurant for prices and booking conditions. See B-Roof's event.

FH55 Grand Hotel Mediterraneo: dinner with live music

The hotel near the Arno lists a five-course dinner from 8:30 PM for 194€ per person, including the advertised wine pairings and live music. The offer specifies a minimum booking of two people. See the dinner menu.

The St. Regis Florence: luxury gala dinner

The Winter Garden's Roaring Twenties-themed evening runs from 7 PM to 2 AM, with an aperitif, seven-course dinner and live jazz. Contact the hotel for the price. See the St. Regis gala.

The Excelsior Florence: an evening above the city

The celebration features a seven-course tasting menu, live performances and a DJ for 590€ per person. Water and coffee are included; wine is extra. See the Excelsior event.

Booking tip: Check the menu, drinks, service charges, payment and cancellation conditions before reserving. Prices and availability can change.

4. See a Theatre Performance on New Year's Eve

For a cultural evening, Teatro Niccolini hosts L'Acqua Cheta on December 31, 2026, at 7 PM and 10 PM. Compagnia delle Seggiole performs the traditional comedy in Italian and Florentine dialect.

The show lasts approximately 90 minutes, including intervals, and tickets for December 31 cost 25€–45€. Choose the earlier performance if you'd like dinner afterwards. Check the official theatre listing.

5. Go Out for Drinks or a New Year's Eve Party

If you prefer cocktails and a party, explore the bars around Piazza della Repubblica and Santa Croce, or head across the Arno towards Santo Spirito. For clubs, look at venues such as YAB and Tenax as December approaches.

Check for a specific December 31 announcement before buying tickets: usual schedules may change. Confirm entry times, dress codes and whether drinks are included.

6. Where to Stay in Florence for New Year's Eve

Choose a hotel within walking distance of your plans: getting back after midnight can take longer if streets are crowded or roads are closed.
