Our methodology

Five is a constraint.
That is the point.

The internet is very good at showing every option. We are building the opposite: a small, defensible shortlist that helps you decide.

01

Define the destination

A hotel must genuinely belong to the place being ranked. We remove duplicates, non-hotel inventory and properties that fall outside the useful destination boundary.

02

Rank quality first

The current Booking.com guest rating is our primary quality signal. We verify it against the exact property page rather than using an aggregated score from another source.

03

Add confidence from volume

A high rating supported by many Booking.com guest reviews is more dependable than the same rating based on very little data. Review counts are not reservation totals.

04

Keep live data current

Ratings and review counts are dated observations; the guide shows when its data was checked. Dates, availability and bookable prices change constantly, so Booking.com confirms those after the traveller supplies stay dates.

What the five stars mean

The five-star 5stays selection mark identifies a hotel chosen for our guide. It is an editorial badge, not the hotel’s official star classification or a conversion of its Booking.com guest score. Guest scores remain on their original ten-point scale.

Editorial policy

Selections can consider guest ratings, review volume, location, verified amenities, value and availability for the researched dates. These signals help assess the likely traveller experience; they do not establish that our editors personally visited or independently tested a hotel. We use property and booking information, distinguish observed rates from live offers, and avoid promising facilities or views that the sources do not support.

Affiliate disclosure

5stays may earn a commission when you follow a Booking.com link and complete a reservation. This never changes which five hotels are selected or their order. Booking.com is the source for guest ratings, review counts and the live commerce layer.
